The whole screen or one window
Before sharing you choose what everyone else will see: the entire screen, or the window of one program. The second is easier when a chat or your inbox is open nearby — they simply never make it into the stream.
In the Windows app the window’s audio travels with it. That is what a browser cannot do: show a player or a game so that everyone hears it properly, rather than through your microphone.
Quality changes as you go
Resolution and frame rate can be changed mid-stream. Text in an editor needs a sharp picture, a fast-moving scene needs smoothness, and switching between the two does not mean stopping and picking the window again.
The change reaches the running stream in a fraction of a second, and viewers see no interruption.
When a browser is enough, and when it is not
In the browser, screen sharing works with nothing installed: pick a tab, a window, or the whole screen and you are sharing. If you only need to show a picture, that is enough.
The browser has one limitation, and it is fundamental: it will not hand over an arbitrary application’s audio. When it matters that viewers hear a player or a game, you need the desktop version — it takes the chosen window’s sound directly.

Any viewer can expand the stream to fullscreen on their side without changing what anyone else sees.
Viewers install nothing
The stream opens through a link in the browser. Watching requires no app.

Is audio shared along with the picture?
Yes. In the Windows app the selected application’s audio is sent with it — game, player, or clip included.
Can I share one program instead of the whole screen?
Yes — the source picker lists open windows separately. Anything outside the chosen window never reaches viewers.
Can I watch a stream on my phone?
Yes, someone else’s stream is visible both in the Android app and in a mobile browser.
How many people can watch a stream?
Everyone in the room — up to fifty people at once.
Will viewers see my other windows if I share one application?
No. When a specific window is selected, only that window is sent: your chats, your inbox, and everything else on screen stay yours.
